Games starts in NTSC

Post by silverstreak »

Hi,

I'm really enjoying getting to grips with the game, but I have a problem with my slightly quirky system.

I have an Amiga 2000 with 2mb chip ram. The system is PAL/NTSC switchable, but for some reason the game runs in NTSC, meaning I lose part of the lower screen.

My workbench is very basic, and set to run in PAL. However the default system timing is NTSC, which is probably causing an issue.

Is there a way to switch this, or possibly force into PAL?

Thanks!

Welcome to our forum @silverstreak,

To be honest, nobody tested it on NTSC. Obviously, it is using PAL mode because of the graphics but you already know that.
I'll try later today using the NTSC emulation (I have no such Amiga model, unfortunately, so I'll have to do it that way) and I'll let you know.

Best,
Piotr

So I tried it on NTSC settings but the game starts in PAL in my WB 3.1. I think something in your Workbench is forcing it to switch to NTSC. Maybe someone else with experience in PAL/NTSC Amiga system will give us a hint.

Thanks. I should point out I don't want the game to run in NTSC :D

It's actually the only game I have on my system that has this bevhaviour. In the meantime, I'll play on my 1200, but it's currently not on the network. A reason for me to address that then.

I should add that the network update was seamless, so thanks for the effort of doing that!

I suspect is a slight hardware issue with the NTSC oscillator. Not to worry, thanks for giving it a moment.

What's interesting is on my 1200, the menu screen is not interlaced. I'm using a standard CRT that does not have an issue with Amiga interlaced screens. It starts to try to interlace, but then stops.

Hi,
i'd just bought the game and registered and until now didn't attempt to run or install the game But i think i will run into the same issue.
My heavy expanded A2000 has a 2MB ChipRam expansion as well that always defaults to NTSC .
I think i have to use that because my feeligs are with less than 2 Megs of Chipram i wouldn't have any luck ?!?

However On a Native NTSC Agnus that can switch to PAL you can always use the program "NEW MODE" from aminet.
It's about as old as the wheel itself by now but still works with most Programs.
You will need the PAL monitor Screenmodes under Devs/monitors but i think you have them there?!?
I will report on my findings.
Waited so long for this game :)

Nope
Got the same problem.
And there is seemingly no way to force it into Pal via the NewMode Program.

I will try to get an NTSC Amiga because emulation doesn't help. This won't be easy though because NTSC Amigas are rare in Europe. Unless I can get an NTSC Agnus, in which case I can check it on the A500+.
Thank you guys for trying (and for your precious purchase and support for the studio). I'll let you know as soon as I know anything about this matter.
